SolarByCity estimates what home solar costs and saves in 4,807 US cities and towns, using public data from the National Laboratory of the Rockies (formerly NREL), the U.S. Energy Information Administration and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Solar sales pitches tend to lead with best-case numbers. We publish the same transparent method for every place — including the ones where solar is a slow payback — so you can sanity-check a quote before you sign. The methodology page lists every assumption.
